As the season changes, now is a great time to make any adjustments to your outdoor lighting system. Use the simple DIY guide below to properly set a timer for your landscape lights.
Adjusting The Outdoor Light Settings
The typical outdoor lighting systems will have a timer that is located inside the lighting transformer. It’s important to note that you may need to adjust a few transformers depending on the size of the system.
Start by opening up your transformer and locating the timer that is plugged in on the inside. Most likely, it’ll be easier to adjust the settings and time while the outdoor lighting timer is unplugged.
Timers usually feature green or red clips or come in a push-in style. With the push-in style, you’ll need to simply push in the tabs or pull them in order to adjust the timing. Check to see what is pushed in already based on the timer style. Make any desired adjustments at this time.
If green and red clips are used, you’ll rely on these elements to set the “on” and “off” timer. The green clip indicates what time the lights come on. Meanwhile, the red clip is there to show you what time the lights will shut off. Either slide out the clips or push them in at the exact times you want the lights to turn on and off.
Setting The Timer For Your Outdoor Lights
Setting the time essentially involves the same process with both timer styles mentioned above. You simply need to turn the dial until the arrow lines up with the desired time of day. The light timers rotate clockwise to set, and they also run this way. Ensure you adjust for AM or PM settings when completing this process.
Once you have finished setting your desired times, plug the timer back into your lighting transformer. If you unplugged the transformer cord from the timer, plug it back in at this time.
Once the steps have been completed, it’s time to close the transformer. Your outdoor lighting system will now run properly, turning on and off at your desired times.
